freedom & opportunity

Sydney is freedom. Ironically.

In 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip selected a suitable site for the first European settlement in Australia. He named it after the British Prime Minister at the time: Lord Sydney. The convicts arriving in Australia suffered great hardships, but even more devastating was the effect of their arrival on the Aboriginal civilisation and culture.

Australia has come a long way in establishing a modern society, with strongly rooted human rights and freedoms of expression, sexuality, ethnicity and religion. Perhaps it is precisely because of its troubled past that these freedoms are more prevalent today than in other parts of the world.

Sydney is opportunity. Business in Australia is conducted with a refreshing simplicity and straightforwardness. Anything is possible. There is a feeling that failing is not the end of the world and limits are there to be pushed. In this society people are receptive to innovation and diversity is the norm. A person with a good idea and the energy, resources and courage to follow it through can achieve anything.

Freedom and opportunity go hand in hand.
